NUGT Stop Suggestion

On March 5th we noted that "Around $8.00 NUGT should be compelling to those who remain bullish gold as we currently do."

NUGT traded to a low of $7.40 during the following week and has since gone 35% higher to $10 (or 25% above our "around $8.00" suggested re-entry).

These are quick easy gains we suggest locking in via a stop loss order, especially if you're compounding the gains on NUGT of up to 450% we made last year and additionally roughly 70% this year.

We suggest a stop loss level of $8.80 to lock in at least 10% or at $8.00 to prevent a win turning to a loss.

Great Gains Booked On Oil Stocks - UCO, ETP, WPZ, NS

Our oil-related holdings have all hit their stops as of this morning.

We scored over 100% on UCO and over 75% on OKS last year.

We raised the stop on our latest UCO position in late February and that stop was hit shortly thereafter for a gain of 9% over 6 months.  It had gone up as much as 35% while we'd held it.

ETP also hit our stop recently for a gain of less than 1% in capital gains while having additionally paid more than 15% in dividends over the 15 months we owned it.

WPZ was stopped out today for a capital gain of nearly 33% while additionally having paid more than 14% in dividends over the 15 months we owned it, for a total gain of 47%

NS also hit our stop which resulted in a capital gain of over 18%.  It had paid nearly 13% in dividends over the 15 months we owned it, making a total gain of 31% on this position.

VXX Buy Stop Lowered Again

We're again lowering our buy stop on VXX, now to $16.25

A similar case as that we made a few days ago against the S&P TSX 60 can also be made against most major indexes.

Shorting The TSX, Chart Study and HXD Update

HXD is the Horizon S&P/TSX 60™ -2x Daily Bear ETF which "seeks daily investment results, before fees, expenses, distributions, brokerage commissions and other transaction costs, that endeavour to correspond to two times (200%) the inverse (opposite) of the daily performance of the S&P/TSX 60™ Index. The Index represents the large cap universe for Canada by offering exposure to 60 of the largest companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange."

That trade didn't work out.

We lost 3.75% on it and since then we've had a buy stop to re-enter HXD.

In January we lowered the buy stop on HXD to $6.95

Today we present another chart study of the Toronto Stock Exchange S&P Composite.

First a Monthly chart:

The red line at the top indicates a trend of resistance and the sloped black lines show that each of the past 5 major rallies, including the current one, have had essentially the same trajectory.

We've also noted in blue that the last two major rallies were roughly 3 years long, and it's been 3 years since the last major top.

Next we present a weekly chart:

On this chart we see that commonly when weekly momentum crosses down, as indicated by the red arrows, and a steep upward wedge is broken (red and black lines), the index tanks.

This did not happen in October of last year, as the market turned higher after the U.S. election, however now weekly momentum has crossed back down (red circle in lower right), and we note a steep upward wedge broken, so we should see our HXD purchase trigger soon and we expect it to go far higher than our $6.95 buy stop.

VXX, ILC (International Lithium Corp.)

We're lowering our buy stop on VXX again, to $17.60

ILC is the ticker for International Lithium Corp. in Canada, while in the U.S. it trades under ILHMF and in France as IAH.

Today ILC traded to a level matching its highest of the past 4 months, and was trading above a down trend of considerable duration though it closed back below that line.

It looks poised to go higher, and as stated recently we're bullish on most stocks related to "raw materials - particularly graphite, lithium, uranium, rare earths, etc." as noted in the link above.

We're already holding ILC at a cost of $0.15 (not previously diarized in this blog) and would be compelled to buy more if it crosses above $0.175 CAD.

An obvious stop level would be if it closes below $0.125 which is represented on the chart above by both the black line showing past support/resistance and the green up-trend line.

Those who are interested in this suggestion might also like our recent post on CJC and RKR.

CJC, RKR :Two Penny Stocks To Consider

We're frequently asked about penny stocks since resource stocks have done well this year, especially those related to precious metals and lithium.

We hold and accumulate many such issues, not diarized within this blog, and intend to keep holding and accumulating in the hope of greater gains.

Of the many dozens we follow, here are two that look good to us currently based on the charts and the fact that they're holding their gains thus far on little or no volume above levels of past resistance.

CJC, Canada Strategic Metals (CJCFF in the US) is compelling above the red line at $0.15

RKR, Rokmaster Resources is a buy & hold at current pricing above $0.05, in our estimation.

We'll refrain from detailing or speculating on the projects these companies are involved in.  For us the bottom line is that these sectors should continue to do well in the intermediate to long term, which makes these stocks great candidates for massive price appreciation.

Of course with a stock that costs just $0.05 a sell at the bid can drop the price by a penny, which is 20%, so it's pointless to set a stop level based on percentages.  These are very highly speculative.

Typically we adhere to the trend lines (in black on the charts above) and if a stock rises 100% while in your possession we suggest selling at least half to recoup your original risk capital.

Disclaimer:  We already hold shares in both companies.

Article: Ominous ‘Ohama Titanic Syndrome’ Forming in Stock Market

"A warning sign is flashing on Wall Street and highlighting growing uneasiness among investors that the stock market-rally inspired by President Donald Trump’s pro-business policies may be starting to unwind.

"Over the past three sessions, starting Monday, the number of New York Stock Exchange-traded stocks hitting 52-week lows exceeded those that hit 52-week highs for the first time since early November, indicating a pause in the run-up in equities that has resulted in a parade of all-time highs ..."

Goldman Sachs Study (GS), Buying FAZ, TZA, ETP, VXX

Here we present a chart of Goldman Sachs (GS):

Of note is the possible double-top indicated by the red line.

Current apparent trend support and resistance is shown in green.

Goldman Sachs had its IPO and came to market in the middle of 1999.  While this chart doesn't go back quite that far, we note that the peak at the end of 2007 was roughly 8 1/2 years from the company's debut.  We are currently approximately 8 1/2 years past the low of 2009.

Elliot Wave observers may identify a hallmark 5-wave pattern from the low in early 2016 to the present price.

Not shown on the chart are momentum indicators.  A momentum formula we use calculates that today both the Daily and Weekly momentum readings turned negative, which is of course bearish.

All of these suggest at least a temporary top is at hand.

We've often cited Goldman Sachs stock as a general market proxy, so we view this data as relevant not just to GS and the financial sector overall but to equities in general.

FAZ is the Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares.

On its chart below, we see a year-long down trend being broken.

Accordingly we're buying FAZ if it rises to $18.45

If entered, we'll place a sell stop at $16.85

A few updates to this recent post:

We're raising our sell stop on ETP (Energy Transfer Partners) to $37.30

Our buy stop on TZA was hit yesterday at $18.60  No stop level for now.

We're lowering our buy stop on VXX to $17.90

SJB, DJIA Momentum

We bought SJB in early September of last year, then doubled it in October.

We'll add a third position if SJB trades above $24.20

At that point a down trend of more than a year will be broken, as will a large falling wedge formation, both of which would be technically very bullish for SJB.

Without a substantial rally tomorrow, DJIA momentum readings will turn negative on a daily basis which is something that only occurs on average 2-3 times per year and often precedes at least a correction.

Without a substantial rally this week, DJIA momentum readings will turn downward on a weekly basis and likely turn negative within a week or two after that.  This occurs on average about once per year, and often precedes at least a correction.

The last time the DJIA weekly momentum readings were as high as they are now was … never save possibly 1929 (we have no momentum data for that period).

Weekly momentum was almost as high as it is now in 1999, a few months before the epic market top of early 2000.

TZA, NUGT

We note a year-long down trend in TZA broken.

At Friday's low NUGT had fallen over 40% to $7.89 from its high on February 8th of $13.70

Around $8.00 NUGT should be compelling to those who remain bullish gold as we currently do.
